On Tuesday, May 5 at the National Auditorium in Mexico City, photographs were revealed of what is put forth as an alien being from theRoswell Crash of 1947. The event was called "Be Witness," and attended by 10,000 people.

Well-known television personality Jaime Maussan hosted the event. Maussan is a controversial proponent of UFO media. Many of the photographs and videos he has presented have later been deemed fakes or hoaxes.

He has done some good work in the field of Ufology, however.

Mexico has had a more open-minded look at Ufology in the last 25 years, totally unlike the US government and NASA, which have both vehemently denied the existence of aliens.

The Photographs of the Aliens

Back to the photos: Supposedly, geologist Bernard A Ray took the photos between 1947 and 1949 on Kodachrome film. They appear to show the remains of small, alien beings which he claims were in New Mexico.

How did the photos reach the public? They were found in a box which was located in the attic of a home in Sedona, Arizona. UFO specialists claim that it took some five years to authenticate the photos. There were other photos in the cache too; those of Dwight Eisenhower before he was President of the United States. Also Bing Crosby and Clark Gable pictures were found.

Maussan says that one of the points that lend to the images' validity is that at the time the photos were taken, there were no models of aliens to go by to create an acceptable facsimile.

He further stated:

Maussan's Statement

"(These photos) show the human race, beyond any doubt, that extraterrestrial visits are a reality. That is why the presentation of two slides, two transparencies, where a being with non-human features can be seen, is very important, especially if these photos were dated by experts during a period, where the model of the archetype extraterrestrial we know today did not exist, but also because it was also impossible to doctor these type of images in such a way," Maussan said.

Throughout the years that I have covered the field of Ufology, there have been many similar claims. We have had small alien bodies from Russia, the alien autopsy presented on FOX TV in America, another alien autopsy in Yugoslavia, an autopsy from the Kremlin, several alleged aliens from Area 51, the Caponi photographs from Italy, the Yeraldo photograph from Italy, the Ilkley Moor alien, an early attempt at a hoax from Germany, a group of photographs supposedly from London, and so on and so on.

Only a few of these efforts have gained acceptance among serious Ufologists, and unfortunately, this seems like it will be the verdict on these recently released photographs.

One of Ufology's most well-respected researchers disagrees, however. Richard Dolan agrees with Maussan's position:

Dolan's Statement

"The analysis of the body or creature that is presented in the image, suggested that this is not a mummy, not a human, not a mammal and not a model, which would require a highly sophisticated detailed understanding of comparative anatomy among various species," Dolan said.

Add one more UFO proponent to the 'yes' side: Astronaut Edgar Mitchell. However, most of the feedback on the Internet has been negative, and until further proof is given, the images of the alleged aliens will remain in the 'unknown' category, unless an outright hoax is discovered. I am open-minded, but have not been impressed with what I have seen and read so far. How about you?
