NASA's revelation on its hope for finding life on
other planets has given a ray of hope to Vatican scientists, as well. The
latter tends to accept the fact that aliens might be present on these planets.
Kepler 452-b, estimated to be 1,400 light years (26 million
miles) away, is being perceived as a planet similar to Earth. Scientists
estimated it to be having a rocky surface.
There is a sensation in the Vatican Observatory, which
is a branch of the papacy. This branch is dedicated to the study of stars since
1582.
"I am open to the possibility of extraterrestrial
life and have been for quite some time. I find no contradiction between
Catholic theology and the belief in aliens. In the past that humans shouldn't
put limits on God's creative freedom," said Rev. José Gabriel Funes, an
astronomer who directs the Vatican Observatory.
However, he raised a question mark over the belief of
the existence of an alien God. He stated that the discovery life does not
necessarily imply that there could be another form of Jesus (God) present. He
further stated that the incarnation of the son of God is a unique event.
The Vatican Observatory has a telescope at Mount
Graham International Observatory at the University of Arizona, in the US.
The Catholic Church has also been questioning the
theories pertaining to extraterrestrial life. There has been a conflict between
religion and science.
